Description

Spend four days photographing the desert in and around Moab, Utah. This workshop is timed to coincide with the peak bloom of cactus flowers and desert primrose. We will explore some of my favorite photographic locations in Canyonlands and Arches National Parks as well as some of the surrounding areas. We will hit the hotspots like sunrise through Mesa Arch, and sunset at Delicate Arch, but we will also, travel to some of my "secret" locations. You'll have the chance to photograph arches, dunes, slickrock, and the shores of the Colorado River as it cuts through Canyonlands National Park. This workshop focuses on the fundamentals of good composition, lighting, and exposure. You should be comfortable with your camera’s settings, but all skill levels are welcome.

Timothy Faust Headshot

About the Instructor

Timothy Faust's images have been featured in numerous publications such as National Geographic Adventure, Outside Magazine, Trail Runner, and Freeskier. His prints can be seen at Altitude Fine Art Photography Gallery in Breckenridge, Colorado.

Timothy has been photographing professionally for ten years, and his work has taken him all over the United States, and even to exotic location such as Tibet and Nepal. His favorite places to photograph are Yosemite National Park, the Himalayas, the desert canyons surrounding Moab, Utah, and around his home in the Mountains of Breckenridge, Colorado.

Before becoming a professional photographer, Timothy taught high school chemistry and physics for several years. He feels that his experience as a school teacher has helped to prepare him for the rigors of teaching photography workshops across the country. His approach is very hands on, and prefers to instruct people on location. He instructs with a "learn while doing" style that helps to reinforce what students are learning.

Activity Level

Most of the sites we will visit will require very short walks on level terrain; however, one of the arches we will visit will require moderate walking of distances up to three miles round trip. We will move at a slow pace, and an alternate activity can be planned. It is important to have appropriate footwear and clothing for changing conditions.
